The dates and location of the 2012 and 2013 BC Library Conference have now been set! Please mark the following in your calendar:
Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, Richmond
Thursday, May 10 – Saturday, May 12, 2012
Thursday, May 9 – Saturday, May 11, 2013
By contracting with the Sheraton for two consecutive conferences we were able to secure favourable rates and provide some consistency for the purposes of long-term planning. Even more so than in the past, these upcoming conferences will be volunteer-driven. BCLA will not necessarily have the resources to hire a dedicated Conference Coordinator, so ease of planning will be a priority. After two years outside the Lower Mainland, we were also keen to bring the conference back to Metro Vancouver – and we’ve chosen a location that will ensure easy commuting from Lower Mainland locations as well as from the ferry terminal and airport. The Sheraton is a short walk from the Canada Line and the hotel also provides an excellent shuttle service. Nearby are a host of restaurants and some great shopping – and of course downtown Vancouver is only a quick Skytrain ride away.
Now that the venue and dates have been set, the Conference Working Group will meet once more to develop recommendations for the 2012 conference, reviewing member feedback and providing suggestions on items such as the process for program development. A formal Conference Planning Committee will then be struck and tasked with beginning the official organizing for 2012.
Please stay tuned for further conference-related information and communications and be prepared to respond to upcoming calls for volunteers. In our recent survey, BCLA members were very clear that the annual conference is a priority activity for this association, so we hope you are ready to help us organize and host a successful 2012 BC Library Conference!
