We are very pleased to announce that so far the following organisations have been selected to receive funding from Libraries Across Borders in 2009 - watch for updates:

Lillooet Area Library Association BC for Story Time Contract for the Book Bus that serves rural First Nations communities

World Neighbours Canada - Burkina Faso for resource materials in local languages and French at the Koalla Community Library

Child Aid -Guatemala for funding a programme coordinator for training librarians for the mobile library system

Trans Himalaya Aid Society (TRAS) for learning materials in local languages for the Tezu Tibetan Settlement in India Library

Afretech - Cura Village Library, Kenya for local resource materials/shelving

positively Africa - Phelisanong Disabled, HIV/Aids Orphans and Vulnerable Children Community Project - resources for the Primary School Library

Africa Community Technical Services (ACTS)- Chamazi Community Library, Tanzania for Library room furniture

And continued support for Puedo Leer, Granada, Nicaragua for resources for the only free children's library in the city

 - Nepal Library Foundation for continued support of the Tikapur Community Library digitisation project

 - Puedo Leer in Granada, Nicaragua for programme and collection development

-  Saree Community school in Indonesia through YouLead University of British Columbia

-  Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan and the Noor Education Centre

Ghana
- additional funding to the World University Service of Canada/Uniterra for computers at Bawku Community Library in Ghana

Guatemala
- training of school librarians through Child Aid and Probigua in Guatemala

Uganda

- assistance to Ceasarea Community Library in Buikwe, Uganda in partnership with the National Library of Uganda

- computer room for Kitengesa Community Library, Uganda in partnership with UBC You Lead

Indonesia
- assistance to Satunama Mobile Libraries in Indonesia through the Unitarian Service Committee of Canada, and

Nepal
- working with the Nepal Library Foundation of Vancouver and READ Nepal to help develop Tikapur Community Library.


British Columbia

Fernie - Assistance to purchase with First Nations Reluctant Reader's Programme of Fernie Secondary School and the heritage Library

Fort Nelson - funds for collection development.

These are all very exciting library development projects and we are very pleased to be able to assist. We look forward to working with more communities both internationally and here in BC in developing library services.

-The Centro de Ensenanza y Aprendizaje de Agricultura Sostenible (CEASO) in El Socorro, Siguatepegue, a project of World Neighbours, Canada.

Ghana
-The Girl Child Education Project Library through World University Service Canada and Uniterra in Bawku, Ghana.

Guatemala
- The Pop Atziaq Weaving Co-operative Project Library for Mayan Scholarship students in rural Guatemala.


British Columbia
 - Funds for a First Nations library worker to attend the 4th Annual International Indigenous Librarians Forum Saskatchewan in 2005.
