BCLA Copyright Committee


Who we are:

The BCLA Copyright Committee is made up of library personnel, and is dedicated to the promotion of fair and balanced copyright for our libraries and all British Columbians.


What we do:

  • Research and communicate the implications of copyright and copyright reform.
  • Advocate for copyright reform that benefits libraries and library users.
  • Educate the public and policy makers on the interests of the library community.
  • Represent BC Library Association views to the CLA Working Group on Copyright.
  • Collaborate with CLA Working Group on Copyright advocacy.
  • Provide advice on best practices regarding copyright issues.

Recent advocacy:

In addition to committee members holding copyright briefings Members of Parliament, in the lead up to the recent Federal election committee members drafted and sent letters to Members of Parliament and addressed responses or queries engendered by this correspondence. The committee continues to work with stakeholders to ensure that any revisions to copyright law will be in the best interests of British Columbia libraries and library users.
